SCADA Design

In order to create a diagram, you have to add blocks with inputs and outputs to connected in the needed logical sequence, so as to get the desired diagram. All the graphical objects can be added from the main application bar:

 The graphical elements consist of:

Functional blocks

  • They are grouped in libraries according to their theirs functions. Double click over the block in order to add it.

 

Controls

  • Some of them are graphical objects which can visualize values from controlled/modelled process – Lamp, Scope, Volt meter (X Meter), Text Out. Another group of controls is human controlled input for the system, like Button, Check Box, Radio Buttons.Double click over the control in order to add it.

 

Common purpose graphical objects

  • They are: Text, Bitmap, Color invertor, color line, transparent color line.

 

All the blocks and controls have unique names. It is impossible to grant a name of block or control, which already exists.

  • Electric power generation, transmission and distribution: Electric utilities use SCADA systems to detect current flow and line voltage, to monitor the operation of circuit breakers, and to take sections of the power grid online or offline.

AltonaLab is a Windows OS software with graphical CAD environment, suitable for design of different kinds of digital and analog processes. It supports several working models:

  • Real time process control. In this case, the computer is connected via suitable hardware to a real object. The process time can be up to infinity. Some signals can be shown on computer screen at real time.
  • Home automation. In this model, the controlled object is Home. It is easy to compose a diagram which to get decisions for switching on/off electrical devices according to a fixed time, fixed day of the week, fixed time only in workdays or holidays, at fixed temperature or any other value. (It is possible to use data from a local weather station and control the home regarding its values).
  • Process modeling. The user needs to set a discrete time and the time of the whole process. When the process is started the visualized results are not real time results. A long and complicated model can be calculated in seconds. The idea is to have the ability to model for a wide kind of real objects and to explore their behavior with different input signals and different regulators – P, PI, PID… This working model is suitable for scientific research and for the equipment for universities.
  • The system has a TCP/IP Server which allows remote control through a mobile phone. The access is password protected. It is possible the values from the controlled processes to be visualized on the phone.

The SCADA Project

  • As a whole the sofware seems stable. From some weeks now I have automated the electrical devices in my home, I haven't had any problems;
  • It is possible during the creation of the schema to observe some bugs for which reason I recommend that you save the project regularly;
  • For now the WeatherInfo block uses info from the online info on my website bgtimes.com;
  • - If I update the executable or the libraries, which are located in the Library subdirectory, it is not sure that a saved schema will open correctly;
